From a new purchase last week to an old favourite this week, Sally Hansen’s Lively Lilac is the base colour to this plaid design. This has got to be my favourite nail varnish out of my whole collection, if I could only keep one of my beloved polishes this is the one I would choose! I love the light purple colour which has a slight shimmer to it and the thick opaque consistency of the polish means you can get away with only one coat (a bonus for those of us who can’t be bothered to wait for two coats to dry!)

To create this start by painting all your nails lilac and when this has dried start creating the design by painting thin overlapping criss-cross lines with the thin brush in the dark purple and white polish. When you’ve finished the grid add white dots where the purple lines cross, and purple dots where the white lines cross. Small dots can be created easily by dipping the end of a tooth pick in a small amount of polish and then dotting it on the nail. Finish with a glossy top coat and you’re done!

Finished Result

Although this design looks quite complex, it can be created in simple steps and looks particularly effective if you can get the lines really straight, definitely one for those of you with steady hands! To make it less time consuming you could always do the plaid design on an accent nail and leave the rest purple, or create the criss-cross pattern with thin striping tape to create super straight lines! Be imaginative with your colours and create your own look!
